Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The Carolina Children's Home is about to go through some big changes.
The Board of Directors has decided to focus its resources on outpatient community counseling and meeting the needs of children and young adults with eating disorders.
They will close the program for behaviorally challenged children and the portion of the Psychiatric Residential Treatment program which focuses on youth with severe mental and behavioral illnesses.
"We have a history of changing our focus to meet the needs of our community," said Peggy Torrey, the CEO of Carolina Children's Home. "We started out 100 years ago as an orphanage and evolved into serving kids with behavioral and mental health issues. We will still be focusing on that through our outpatient counseling center, so not completely moving away from that."
This transition will impact 45 full time and 24 part time Carolina Children's home staff.
