A church fundraiser is trying to raise money for a police officer battling cancer.

Swansea, SC (WLTX) - A benefit was held Saturday in Swansea to help a Columbia police officer that has cancer.

Officer David Goodwin has stage three melanoma.

His church held the benefit to pay for his medical bills. His fellow members sold dinners, cakes, and used items all to raise money.

Officer Goodwin says that he is very thankful for all of the donations.

"They've basically taken their time to put this together, a lot of the stuff was donated the silent auction stuff was donated from various vendors," he said. "It's just amazing how much people just really do care, even if they don't know you personally just because of what you're going through."

Officer Goodwin has been a police officer for over 15 years and his church has been able to raise over $750 for him.
