CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police have arrested a music teacher at Oakdale Elementary School after they say he admitted to viewing child pornography.
Benjamin McMiller, 32, is charged with four counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, McMiller was hired in August of 2015. He has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, CMS said Thursday.
Investigators say that on October 20, officers received a tip that someone was watching child pornography in Charlotte. Detectives immediately launched an investigation in conjunction with the SBI and determined the account belonged to McMiller. Detectives say they then went to McMiller’s home and seized evidence pertinent to the case.McMiller. Detectives say they then went to McMiller’s home and seized evidence pertinent to the case.
Police say that McMiller voluntarily came to police headquarters on Wednesday and interviewed with detectives. During that interview, detectives say he confessed to streaming the videos and was arrested.
McMiller is currently in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
