What Do College Student Think About the Election?

Columbia, SC (WLTX)- The election has been a main topic of conversation within classrooms all across the state.

At Columbia college, a private liberal arts women's college in the capital city, that very discussion was going on among students Wednesday.

Students in Dr. Jason Munsell's political communications class talked about the role gender has played throughout the election.

"[Trump] has children from multiple marriages, his little sexual comments wouldn't fly if it was a girl," one student said. "That wouldn't fly if he was a girl, she wouldn't have been able to get as far as she did if she had more than one marriage."

"If Donald Trump was all for women, he would probably be seen as weak," another student said before talking about breaking norms," If Hillary Clinton was like oh my strengths, my powers, my businesses, i feel like she would look kind of crazy."

Munsell said this election has presented unique challenges in teaching this class.

"Sometimes it's hard to find the relevance, sometimes things are so outer limits, so sort of 'wow i cant believe this is going on in an actual presidential election' that it's like...[speechless]," he said. "Nobody has said that in a van about a women I think in a presidential election that came out, so what do you do with that?"
