Columbia Man Dies of Gunshot Wound

Richland County Deputies are investigating a shooting that left one person dead.

COLUMBIA, SC - (WLTX) One person died in a shooting incident early Saturday morning. 

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts says 25-year-old William D. Archie, was shot and transported to a local hospital where he died at 4:10 a.m. An autopsy shows that he died from a gunshot wound to the lower body.

According to the Richland County Sheriff's Department deputies, a verbal fight turned physical earlier that evening. Later, they say the shooting happened at the coroner of Two Notch Road and Fontaine Road near a gas station. Archie was transported from the 600 block of Hillcrest Drive.  

This shooting remains under investigation by the Richland County Sheriff's Department.
