Columbia Man Set Building on Fire, Officers Say

The man is accused of intentionally setting a fire at a structure on North Main Street.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Columbia Police and the Columbia Fire Department say a man intentionally set a building on fire late Friday night.

Major Anthony Kennedy, 60, is charged with third degree arson, third degree drunkenness, and trespassing.

Officers say he set several items on fire at 2222 North Main Street. That led to a nearby structure receiving fire and smoke damage.

Police and fire crews were able to remove other items from the location to prevent further damage to the building.

No one was found inside the building that was damaged.

Officers say they got a tip that led them to Kennedy, who they say they found hiding behind an electrified fence. Crews were able to get through the fence to take him into custody.

A motive for the crime is not yet known.
