Columbia Police Officer Charged with Domestic Violence

Officers say the man hit his wife as she was trying to leave their home.

Lexington County, SC (WLTX) - Lexington County deputies have arrested a Columbia police officer after they say he assaulted his wife.

Charles Starling, 37, is charged with second-degree domestic violence.

Investigators say Starling and his wife got into a fight Thursday night, and during the incident, Startling grabbed, pushed, and elbowed the woman in the jaw.

“The victim attempted to avoid an altercation by asking Mr. Starling to leave the residence and a struggle began,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “Our investigators determined he was the primary aggressor and placed him under arrest.”

Starling is suspended without pay, according to the Columbia Police Department. He's now being held at the Lexington County Detention Center.
