Columbia police say shots were fired before a car crash that left 17-year-old Cameron Scott dead

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Columbia police say shots were fired before a car crash that left a 17-year-old dead.

Police released new information Thursday on the death of Cameron Scott. 

According to police, on Tuesday night, Scott was a passenger with three other people in a car driving down Farrow Road near Bendale Drive.

A pickup truck with unknown people inside came up to them and fired shots at their car. The pickup then drove away from the scene. 

While the victims were driving in an attempt to get away, police say the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed, resulting in Scott's death.

The suspect vehicle is described as a small, dark-colored pickup truck.
