Dangerous Heat Index Temperatures Forecasted For the Midlands

Columbia, SC (WLTX) We are expected air temperatures in the Midlands going into the weekend to break 100 degrees, with heat index temperatures even higher.

Most of the Southern U.S. will be under a strong upper level area of high pressure. This will allow our air temperatures to reach at or over 100 degrees for the first time this year. This will be the case for many of our Midlands communities by Friday and into the weekend.

The heat index, or what it actually feels like, is expected to not only stay over 100 degrees today but into the weekend approaching in some Midlands neighborhoods close to 110 degrees. Although it's Famously Hot again, with dew point temperatures, the amount of moisture in the air, in the mid 70s, it will be much hotter than the air temperatures, and that's in the shade.

Our next chance for rainfall to potentially cool us off will be my Monday afternoon.
