Deputies: Boy Attacks Student and Bus Driver, Bites Trooper

The incident happened in Elgin Tuesday afternoon.

Elgin, SC (WLTX) - Richland County deputies say a 13-year-old boy attacked multiple people--including biting a state trooper-- aboard a school bus Tuesday afternoon near Elgin.

Officers say the problems began around 3 p.m. on Tamwood Lane, when the boy got into a fight with another student. According to deputies, the bus driver stopped the bus and tried to break up the fight, but the boy began attacking the driver as well.

An off-duty state trooper driving in the area saw that a fight was happening onboard and went to help. However, officers say the boy assaulted the trooper too, at one point biting the officer on the arm and the chest.

The trooper was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Richland County deputies then arrived on the scene and were able to restrain the student,. He was later released to the custody of his parents.

There's no word on any charges.
