Bank Robbery Suspect Briefly Escapes Custody

A bank was robbed in northeast Richland County Monday morning.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Richland County deputies say a bank robbery suspect who'd been arrested earlier in the day briefly escaped Monday afternoon.

Officers now say 37-year-old Kison Levar Walters on Pineview Road is back in custody again.

He'd been arrested for a robbery at the South State Bank on Clemson Road that took place around 1 p.m. Monday. Investigators say Walters demanded cash and left. Deputies say they later arrested him in the area without incident.

However, around 3 p.m., he somehow managed to escape their custody near Pineview Road, and assaulted a deputy in the process. About 90 minutes later, deputies found Walters again in a wooded area about 50 yards from where he escaped.

It's not known if the deputy suffered serious injuries.

Investigators also believe Walters is responsible for last Friday's robbery of a TD Bank on Two Notch Road.
