Deputies: Man Took $13,000 in Home Repair Scam

Richland County, SC (WLTX) - Richland County deputies have arrested a man who they say took money from victims to do home repairs but never actually did the work.

Wayne Hunter Wallace, 48, has been charged with three counts of obtaining goods under false pretenses.

Officers say the incidents all happened back in June of 2014. In one case, deputies say a man hired Wallace to put a roof on a home, but Wallace never built the structure. The victim lost $6,938.

In the other instances, Wallace told separate victims he'd repair hail damage to their roofs, but never did. Those two victims lost over $7,000 combined.

The total for all victims was $13,987.

Wallace was eventually caught Wednesday by the U.S. Marshals service in the town of Little River. Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott stated that if you have been a victim of Wallace, if you know someone that has, please contact the Richland County Sheriff's Department 803-576-3000.
