Deputies: Student Brings Pellet Gun to School

Manning, SC (WLTX) - Clarendon County deputies say an eighth grade student brought a pellet gun to school and got into a struggle with a school resource officer.

The incident took place at 9:30 Monday morning at Manning Junior High School.

Clarendon School District Two Superintendent John Tindal says a student reporting seeing the gun on the student, and reported the incident to the school resource officer. The student was then taken by the officer to the office.

A Clarendon County Sheriff's Office incident report says once inside the office, the student began yelling and attempting to leave the office. The report goes on to say that the student then went out into the hallway, and when the officer tried to stop him, the two began wrestling. The struggle spilled into the bathroom, where the officer was able to pin the student on the floor and restrain him.

The student has been suspended for 10 days, and the principal is recommending that he be expelled.
