The wildfire on Pinnacle Mountain in Pickens causing problems in the Midlands.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) A Code Orange Air Quality Alert continues throughout South Carolina until midnight.

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control continues the alert due to numerous large wildfires that are still burning in the Carolinas.

PIckens County Emergency Management has ordered an evacuation for communities that could be affected by The Pinnacle Mountain fire. This fire is still ongoing and there is some concern over the wind predictions for the next few days. Shelters have been put in please at the East Pickens Baptist Church in Pickens at 2244 Gentry Memorial Highway.

These fires continue to produce large smoke plumes and the smoke is expected to create unhealthy breathing conditions where the smoke is most concentrated. The smoke can irritate the eyes and respiratory systems.

DHEC recommends individuals with breathing issues to limit time spent outdoors to avoid the smoke. Take measures to prevent outdoor smoke to getting inside your homes by keeping windows and doors closed.
