DUI Crash Causes Car to Burst Into Flames, Police Say

Officers say the incident happened at the intersection of Huger and Hampton Streets.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Columbia police say a drunk driver hit a car, causing it to burst into flames, then crashed again a short time later when officers tried to stop her.

Stefanie Lynn Seufert, 35, is charged with DUI, driving under suspension, second degree hit and run, failure to stop for blue lights, and failure to give information/render aid.

Officers say just before 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, Seufert's car hit an Acura near the intersection of  Huger and Hampton Streets. Officers say she didn't stop and drove away, however.

When officers got the the scene the victim's car was on fire, and two passengers were inside. The officer was able to pull one passenger out, and paramedics were able to rescue the second one.

Both victims went to the hospital with internal injuries and broken bones.

Officers say they caught up to Seufert, but when they tried to pull her over, she kept going. Officers say she ultimately wound up crashing into a power pole in the 800 block of Meeting Street.

She's since been checked out by EMS and taken to the county jail.
