Fatal Crash in Sumter County Leaves Driver Dead

Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash in Sumter County.

SUMTER COUNTY - (WLTX) -- One person is dead after crashing into a tree early Saturday morning, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Troopers say the driver of a 1996 Chevrolet truck was traveling west on US 378 at around 3:00 a.m. and drove off the left side of the road, overcorrected himself and ran off the right side of the road into a tree.

Troopers say the person died at the scene after being entrapped in the vehicle. 

The collision remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
