Lee's Review: "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues"

(WLTX) - The 1980s are bringing big changes to the news industry. First on the agenda is dividing the dual anchor team of Burgandy/Corningstone. But another big change is having news broadcast around the clock! The Global News Network (GNN) has so much time to fill, even a down-and-out loudmouth like Ron Burgandy can get a second shot (on the graveyard shift).

However, he can't climb back to the top all alone. He must re-assemble his old group from San Diego before challenging the alpha anchor for dominance. Can he reclaim his prime time position and his family? Perhaps by going to new lows, he can reach new heights.

If comic brilliance is measured in laughs, then this movie earns the moniker. However, it's only fair to point out that they are cheap laughs. Much like its predecessor, "Anchorman 2" is mostly Mr. Ferrell and Co. ad-libbing absurdity. Sometimes it's hysterical, others just random. In other words, more of the same.

Maybe it won't have quite the same appeal because people have grown so accustomed to Ferrell's loud, confrontational and chauvinistic style of humor. But, judging from the audience I was with, that's the very reason they were there.

However, I think we all got an overdose of Steve Carell's Brick Tamland. He was so disconnected with reality that he was more sad than funny. And, unfortunately, he pulls Kristen Wiig down with him. Hopefully, this certified couple will be used more sparingly in future installments.

As for now, "Anchorman 2" delivers everything that's expected...uneven comedy that will make you squirm with delight.
