USC's National Champs Help Make Local Park Beautiful

The national champions came together to help spruce up a neighborhood.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The same USC women's basketball team that brought our city a championship got together with the community today to make one Midlands park beautiful.

The team went to Hyatt Park in Columbia Saturday morning to paint, plant trees, and spruce up the playground. Forward A'ja Wilson says she loves making a positive difference in the community she grew up in.

"Just from being from here, and being the hometown girl, and just to see the things that we brought to this state, the good things we brought to this state just puts a smile on my face," Wilson said.

"Hopefully we can do this periodically," said head coach Dawn Staley.

Staley says parks like these are where a lot of players like hers got their start.

"Dreams are originated in these types of places," Staley said. "You have to continue to put love and support into places like this throughout the city of Columbia and throughout the state of South Carolina."

Fans also got to enjoy some live entertainment, lots of food, and a bouncy house.
