Irmo, SC (WLTX) - Two months ago a three-year-old Jacoby Latta was killed while playing in the Irmo Community Park.
For the first time the Latta Family returned to the park with close to 200 others to remember his life and dedicate a kids garden in his name.
"I just miss Jacoby, I just want him back. I'd give anything to see him smile and hear him laugh, I just want Jacoby back," said Jacoby's sister Jasmine.
Jasmine says even though two months have passed, its still difficult to believe that her brother is no longer with her.
"It changed our life; it's hard because we lost someone that we love so much. We are trying to be there for each other but it's not the same, we are not the same since we lost Jacoby."
While playing in the park a tree branch fell and killed Jacoby.
Community members gathered to dedicate a kids garden and playhouse in his name.
"I like many others, prayed for Jacoby and was angry when God did not answer my prayers," said Irmo Mayor Hardy King.
King got a bit emotional while talking about the loss of Jacoby; a boy who he says life was tragically cut short.
"In my mind and in my heart, Jacoby was a hero, although he was a lover of life, I believe what God was saying to me was that Jacoby was a giver of life."
Known for his infectious smile, Jacoby loved gardening, but what he loved more than anything was superheroes like Captain America.
"He would pretend to be Captain America, he would have Captain America outfits so that was Jacoby," said Latta.
The family got in touch with Marvel Comics and in three weeks Jacoby will be featured in one of their magazines as a little hero.
As loved ones released balloons into the air, Latta just hopes no other family will have to go through the pain that they've endured.
"I pray that it doesn't happen to anyone else, I pray that no one has to go through the loss that we have gone through."
