The area has been prone to flooding in the past. Back on Memorial Day, a section of the roadway was shut down when 7 inches of rain fell in about two hours.

State troopers also said there were downed powerlines and trees in the area. In Charleston County, officials said part of Highway 17 was blocked by downed powerlines.
