Columbia, SC (WLTX) - With the month of October comes Oktoberfest. The Incarnation Lutheran Church kicked off their annual Oktoberfest event in Columbia on Friday night.
The event features German music, entertainment, food and beer.
This is the sixth year for the event and they are expecting more than one thousand people to show up throughout the weekend.
The pastor of the church says it's all about bringing the community together.
“Sometimes churches can look like closed off places,” says Pastor Mary Anderson. “We're a big granite place and have been here since 1921 and it's a way to open up into the community in a way that people can feel safe and welcome. We're not checking anyone's faith ID, but really just getting a chance to know each other.”
The event continues Saturday from 11-10pm and Sunday from Noon-8pm.
