Jurors to Deliberate Another Day in Pinson Case

Jurors began deliberating in the federal trial against Jonathan Pinson Monday afternoon.

Pinson is the former board chair of South Carolina State University and faces 45 counts for his alleged involvement in illegal schemes.

After being read the charges, the jury didn't get very far before one of the jurors became panicked due to the pressure and asked to be excused. The lawyers were able to talk that juror into continuing, but the two alternates will be kept in the building in case any other issues come up.

Jurors called it a day shortly after 6 p.m. and plan to resume deliberating at 9:30 Tuesday morning.

Though there is no expected time for a verdict to be issued, the federal holiday makes it a short week and many hope the verdict will come down before the extended weekend.
