Labor Day: "Kick back, Lay Back, Enjoy the Day"

The event gave people some quality time together on their day off.

Chapin, SC (WLTX) - A lot of people traded their office for the streets of Chapin on Labor day. Families headed to the 37th Annual Chapin Labor Day Festival for some quality family time together on their day off.

"It's very nice to have the day off," said Gretchen McCabe, one of the festival attendees. "It's wonderful for everybody just to kick back, lay back, enjoy the day."
Skip Wilson, the mayor of Chapin, says the festival is all about bringing people together.
"It's something special," Wilson said. "Young kids, children, grandchildren, grandparents... they get a chance to be with them and have a fun time."
At the festival, attendees exchanged paperwork for memories.
"The kids love it, they've got bounce houses and cotton candy and they just hang out with their moms and daddies," said Jenny Marks, another festival attendee.
Marks says having this outdoor time with the kids is priceless.
"It gives them hands on experiences, and an experience they might not get if they're sitting in front of the TV or in front of a video game," Marks said.
Whether they lined the streets for the parade, conquered the giant slide, or traveled back in time at the car show, families had the time to do it together.
"It's just an opportunity for people just to have fun," Wilson said.
