Lexington Christmas Display Spreads Holiday Cheer

A decades long tradition for one man in Lexington

Lexington, SC (WLTX) - For the last 34 years Andy Acciardo has been building a one of kind Christmas display at 353 Mansfield Circle in Lexington.

"All of these characters here are drawn by hand painted by hand," Acciardo said.

It’s a tradition that his father has passed down to him – building wooden cut outs of classic television and movie characters.

"Me and my father just had the fellowship every Christmas along with my mother and my brother and we would get under the shed, under the garage and draw these out by hand (and) paint them. I'd start out in October (or) November getting ready and get them installed into the ground for the children," he said.

There is Kermit, Raggedy Ann and Andy, the Sesame Street gang and more. Acciardo said narrowing it down to one favorite is tough so he's picked eight.

"Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Those are the ones I really started with," he said.

He said hundreds pass by to see the display each season including his neighbors.

"Seeing all of these lights makes me happy for Christmas," Kendall Floyd said.

And just like Acciardo they've each got a favorite. Kendall’s sister Alyssa said that the Smurfs were her favorite. On Friday night they were in for a special surprise.

"Ho. Ho. Ho," Santa Clause yelled as he took pictures with the children.

Acciardo said that Santa Clause is expected to make another appearance Sunday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m
