Lexington County Deputies Charge Richland County Reserve officer With Pointing a Gun

(Lexington, SC) WLTX--A Richland County Reserve officer has been charged with pointing a gun at two hikers in a Lexington park in early May.

Michael Collum, 42 is charged with pointing a gun at two hikers in a remote park of Saluda Shoals park on Bush River road.

According to an incident report, two hikers noticed a small campfire that appeared to be unattended. They said they waited about two minutes after calling out and hearing no response they went to go put out the fire when Collum appeared, reached into a bag and pulled out a semi automatic pistol, racked the slide and pointed it at the victims. Collum was reported to have told them to leave or he would shoot them.

Both of the victims reported the incident to a park ranger who contacted law enforcement.

Deputies with the Lexington County Sheriff's department located Collum and his daughter in the park. He was placed under investigative detention and his credentials and firearm were taken.

Collum was charged with pointing and presenting a firearm and was transported to Lexington County Detention center.
