LIST: School Districts Closed Due to Hurricane Matthew

Midlands high school games postponed because of Hurricane Matthew.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - In response to the threat posed by Hurricane Matthew, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has ordered school in 26 counties to shut down beginning Wednesday.

The closures will last for the rest of the week. 

Here is a list of the affected counties. State offices in those counties will also be closed.

Bamberg

Barnwell

Beaufort

Berkeley

Calhoun

Charleston

Clarendon

Colleton

Darlington

Dillon

Dorchester

Fairfield

Florence

Georgetown

Hampton

Horry

Jasper

Lee

Lexington

Marion

Marlboro

Orangeburg

Richland

Sumter

Williamsburg

Newberry County schools was not affected by the governor's order, but has decided to dismiss schools early on Wednesday. Elementary schools will close at 12:30 p.m., while middle and high schools dismiss at 1 p.m.  Lee County School and Fairfield County Schools also decided to close for the rest of the week on their own.

Hurricane Matthew is expected to reach the state by late Friday. Flooding and hurricane force winds are expected along the coast, and rain and gusty winds will happen in the interior.
