Lockout Lifted at Ballentine Elementary After Suspect Search

Officers say it was triggered by the search for a suspect.

Richland County, SC (WLTX) - Ballentine Elementary School was briefly on lockout Tuesday afternoon while deputies searched for a suspect.

The lockout meant that no students were being dismissed, and all the buses were stopped.

Richland County deputies say they pulled over a suspicious vehicle not far from the school, and determined that the vehicle was stolen. The car drove off however, and deputies briefly pursued it.

The car eventually stopped on Cabin Road, and the driver and passenger ran out. The driver was caught moments later, but the passenger is still at large.

By around 3:20 p.m. deputies said there was no longer a threat to the school, and the Ballentine Elementary was taken off lockout.
