Man Charged with Drunken Boating in Death

EUTAWVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Authorities are investigating a weekend boating accident on Lake Marion that left one man dead and resulted in a boating under the influence charge against another.

Authorities say it happened Saturday evening when a boat hit a buoy neat Redbank Landing just outside of Eutawville.

Natural Resources Department Capt. Robert McCullough says there were four people in the boat and three were thrown into the water. One was killed. That person has been identified as 50-year-old Byrant Boyce of Manning.

McCullough says 43-year-old Robert Davis of Rembert was charged at the Orangeburg County jail on a count of felony boating under the influence. It was not immediately clear if Davis had an attorney.

Davis' bond was set at $5,000, which he paid, and was released from the Orangeburg County Jail Sunday evening.
