Man Charged with Murder in Richland County Shooting

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WLTX) - An arrest has been made in the Saturday shooting at a Fontaine Road gas station, according the Richland County Sheriff's Department.

Dennis Diamond, 29, is charged with the murder William Archie, 25, according to deputies.

Deputies say investigators arrested Diamond on Hughes Street without incident on Saturday.

Just before 3 a.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2017, deputies responded to a shots fired call at a BP Station located at 1005 Fontaine Road, investigators say.

Investigators say Diamond approached a man, along with a passenger, sitting in a car and asked him for a ride. At some point, an argument turned into a physical fight between Diamond, the man and the passenger, deputies say. Investigators say Diamond then pulled out a handgun and shot the man in the lower body.

The man was driven to his residence on Hillcrest Drive where he complained about his injury, say deputies. Investigators say EMS then transported him to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital, where he died.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts identified the man as William Archie, 25. Archie dies as a result of a gunshot wound to the lower body, according to Watts.
