Another Man Drowns in Saluda River Near Riverbanks Zoo

For the second time in three days, a man has drowned in the Saluda River.

Lexington County, SC (WLTX) -- The Lexington County Coroner has released the name of a man who is believed to have drowned in the Saluda River Sunday night.

Coroner Margaret Fisher said 43-year-old William John Leeman of Gaston was pulled by an unknown person in a canoe from the Saluda River near Riverbanks Zoo around 6 p.m. Sunday night.  The person who pulled Leeman out began CPR.

Fisher said Lexington County EMS transported Leeman to Lexington Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead just after arriving.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

This is the second case in the last three days. On Friday, 27-year-old Deslin Mitchell drowned in the Saluda River by Riverbanks Zoo.
