Columbia, SC (WLTX) A former guard at Richland County Detention Center has been sentenced to 60 years in the killing of his pregnant girlfriend.
Tristian Gist, 24, shot his pregnant girlfriend in the head and then set her body on fire. He was charged with murder and death or injury of a child in utero due to commission of a violent crime.
Officers say that Columbia firefighters discovered the body of 22-year-old Dierra Fisher in March of 2013. The coroner says died of a single gunshot wound to the head.
Investigators say that Gist and Fisher had been dating for several years and were living together.
Deputies determined Gist shot the victim in the early morning hours. After waiting several hours with the body in his home, officers say he drove her body to the wooded area with his two small children in the car, where officers say he set the victim's body on fire.
