Man Kills Suspected Carjacker with Gun he Had in Vehicle

AIKEN, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a man shot and killed a suspect trying to rob him in Aiken County after the suspect forced the carjacking victim into his own vehicle where he was able to grab his gun.

Sheriff's Capt. Eric Abdullah said in a news release that a man was pumping gas around 6:20 a.m. Thursday when the gunman demanded money and told him to get back in his vehicle.

Coroner Tim Carlton says the man gave 39-year-old Steven Kilmek $15. But then authorities say Kilmek and the man started fighting and the suspect fired and missed while the man got his own gun and shot the suspect several times. Paramedics pronounced Kilmek dead at the scene.

The man's name was not released. No charges have been filed as the investigation continues.
