Man Wanted for Shooting Wife, Killing Son Found Dead in Columbia

Wanted N.C. man found dead in Columbia motel

Richland County, SC (WLTX) - A man wanted for shooting his wife and killing his teenage son--then bragging about it on social media--has been found dead in Columbia.

Norlina, North Carolina Police Chief Taylor Bartholomew told News19 that Earl Valentine was found dead Wednesday night of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Richland County deputies have not confirmed that information, but officers did tell News19 they found a man dead in his hotel room at the Days Inn on Plumbers Road, which is just off Interstate 20 near the Wilson Boulevard exit.

Valentine's mother lives in the Columbia area, according to police.

On Tuesday, investigators say Valentine went to the home of his ex-wife and shot her, then pulled the trigger on his 15-year-old son. The son died while talking to a 9-1-1 operator.

The ex-wife, identified as Keisha Valentine, is said to be in critical but stable condition.

After the killings, a Facebook Live video surfaced, where Valentine reportedly said, "what's up everybody? I just killed my (expletive) wife...I don't feel no (expletive) remorse for what I did."

Bartholomew said he spoke to the suspect by phone after the killings. "I told him to come and talk to a grown man about this.  But you know he wouldn't. Men like that are cowards. they beat up on women and children.  I  said to him you killed your son. He (suspect) kept saying that she did it. "

Police said that Keisha Valentine had moved from Charlotte to Norlina, a small town near Raleigh, to get away from her former spouse. A restraining order against him had expired last month.

"He shot himself in the head," Bartholomew said. "Think he felt the pressure of being surrounded by marshals.  He died alone. At the end of the day he is a coward"
