Military Veterans From Texas Help Hurricane Victims

Veterans from Texas help hurricane victims.

Holly Hill, SC (WLTX) - Since the storms hit, groups from all across South Carolina have helped those affected by Hurricane Matthew, but some traveled a great distance to do their part.

A construction company comprised mostly of military veterans traveled from Texas to lend a hand.

Applied Construction Solutions stopped in Florida before heading to Orangeburg County.

While there they stopped in the town of Holly Hill to prepare and gave about 5,000 meals, 40,000 bottles of water and cut down over 100 trees that fell during the storm.

"When you complete your service and you go back to civilian life all of us still have this urge to serve the community," president of the company, Nicholas Morgan said. "What we attempt to do is to bring the items or the practices that most of us that are veterans have from our service, which is to do something team oriented to make things better for groups of people that are going through hard times."

The Holly Hill police and fire departments gave the group a celebratory escort out of town as crowds cheered to thank them for their efforts.
