National Child Passenger Safety Week is Approaching

Columbia, S.C. - National Child Passenger Safety Week is Sept. 18-24. Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital and Kohl’s Buckle Buddies offer tips and free car seat safety checks.

In South Carolina, four out of five car seats are installed or used improperly, increasing the risk of injury to children. “In the last quarter, we have checked 315 car seats. The majority of those have something wrong. People don’t realize that car seats need to be checked and must be installed properly to protect children,” said Buckle Buddies coordinator Kevin Poore.

“Most parents try to do what seems right to them, but it may not be correct or safe. It is best to have an expert check your child’s car seat,” said Poore.
