Columbia, SC (WLTX) - William Holbrook is expected to be introduced as the new Columbia Police Chief Friday morning.
Holbrook has served as chief in Huntington, West Virginia for the past seven years.
Holbrook submitted his resignation letter to the mayor of Huntington Thursday, and despite city officials not naming who the new chief is, sources say Wilson has tapped William Holbrook to take over the embattled department.
Mayor Steve Williams in Huntington says that Holbrook's last day in office will be April 7th.
While in the chief position, crime in Huntington has reached a 27-year low. Holbrook was the recipient of the Law Enforcement Officer of the year award from the West Virginia Association of Justice and the Huntington Police Department is also nationally recognized.
Columbia has been without a permanent police chief since Randy Scott resigned last April. Ruben Santiago had been serving as interim chief, but resigned last week.
City officials have scheduled an introduction ceremony for 9 a.m. at Columbia Police Headquarters.
