New Midlands Pro Football Team To Kickoff In 2015

West Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- It has been 7 years since the Midlands had a professional football team, that will all change next year when the newest member of the Ultimate Indoor Football League hits the gridiron for it inaugural season.

"This is a football town, we live, eat, breathe football around here and what a great opportunity to be a part of something special," said Coach Rod Lorick.

Lorick is the athletic director and head football coach at Gray College, he recently gained more titles, as the assistant head coach and the offensive coordinator of the Capital City Revolt.

"It is going to be exciting, this thing is going to be high-flying, a lot of excitement, in this league it is all about points, it is all about passing and points, we are going to be bringing a lot of high-flying action to the Midlands," said Lorick.

Nathan Dorton, a former Irmo High School and Appalachian State football player is the brainchild behind new team.

"I've always been interested in building things, that is always been what I liked to do and now it is at a bigger scale, a professional football team," said Dorton.

Willie Scott will be the first head coach of the expansion team, Scott is former University of South Carolina football player and was a first round draft choice in the 1981 NFL draft.

Dorton will be the first player signed to the Revolt, he will play wide receiver when the 8-man football team takes the field in the spring of 2015.

"If you can have it in the spring, when there is no football, you can have it year around, who wouldn't want that, so that is kind of the idea behind it," said Dorton.

Even though the X's and O's are still being finalized for the first season, Lorick believes this team will provide great family entertainment and an opportunity for some athletes to continue their football career.

According to Lorick, "Just to be able to take these young men and try to help them get to the next level, it is no different than what I do currently here at Gray College, so it is going to be a special opportunity to change a lot of lives."

The Capital City Revolt's season will run March through June starting in 2015.
