Newberry Man On Trial for Meth Possession, Shows Up to Court With Meth

Newberry deputies arrested Franklin Hayes, 31 after his trial finished and they found meth in his pocket

Newberry, SC (WLTX) A Newberry man on trial for possession of meth came to court with 4 grams of meth in his pocket. 

According to the Newberry Sheriff's department, Franklin Dell Hayes, 31 of Newberry came ot the courthouse on Wednesday to start his trial for possession of meth 3rd offense.  

At the end of the first day of the trial, the court ordered Hayes into custody until the trial was over.  When deputies searched Hayes before taking him to jail, they found about 4 grams of meth in his pants pocket. 

The jury, unaware of meth found on the first day of court, convicted Hayes on Thursday.  He was sentenced to nine years.   

Warrants have been obtained charging him with possession of meth for drugs found on him at court.
