Newberry Shooting Suspect Arrested

Newberry, SC(WTLX) -- Deputies with the Newberry County Sheriffs Department have arrested a man accused of shooting one man and shooting at another. 

According to deputies, Kweisi Steven Nicks, 20, of Prosperity, is facing attempted murder charges, after he shot one man in the groin and fired shots at another. They said two men arrived at Newberry County Memorial Hospital Wednesday afternoon. The two told authorities that the person that fired the gun went by the nickname "Kwe Low." 

Sheriff Lee Foster said community tips led them to an arrest. "This is another example of how it takes properly trained officers who are invested in the community to be effective as law enforcement in the communities we serve,” said Foster. “I am proud of the great relationships we have built together in Newberry County and assure the community that we will continue to work together to make our communities safer and better!"

Nicks is also facing Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime, and Receiving Stolen Goods. Nicks is awaiting a bond hearing.
