Off-Duty Aiken Deputy Killed in Motorcycle Crash

AIKEN COUNTY, SC (WLTX, AP) - An off-duty Aiken County deputy was killed in a motorcycle wreck Wednesday night, according to the Aiken County Sheriff's Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The Aiken Standard reports that Deputy Kesli Payton Padgett, 25, was killed in the accident Wednesday night.

Aiken County Sheriff's Capt. Nick Gallam said the officer was reported missing Wednesday afternoon. Deputies and first-responders found the officer's body in some woods near an intersection near Warrenville. 

According to the Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday night on Pine Log Road in Aiken County. The victim was driving a 2009 Honda motorcycle south on Pin Log Road, according to Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins.

Padgett lost control of the motorcycle and left the right side of the road, where the motorcycle crashed, Collins said. Padgett was wearing a helmet, according to Collins.
