Youth Advocate Program Receives Gannett Donation

Columbia, SC (WLTX)-- WLTX News19 and the Gannett Foundation were proud to present a check for $3,500 to the South Carolina Youth Advocate Program (SCYAP) and their Precious Cargo project.

The day a child enters the foster care system can be quite overwhelming.

The Precious Cargo project allows SCYAP to have a duffle bag available to give to each child that comes into care.

It also allows the child to carry his/her belongings with the dignity they deserve. The contents of the bag includes basic hygiene items and school supplies along with a stuffed animal and a blanket, traditional symbols of childlike love and security.

The Precious Cargo Project greatly benefits 350-400 youth served by the state's therapeutic foster care program.

To make a donation or learn more visit or call toll-free 1-800-882-5513.

The South Carolina Youth Advocate Program does not take any administrative costs from donations made to the Precious Cargo Project; each dollar donated goes directly to the children.

The Gannett Foundation is a corporate foundation sponsored by Gannett Co., Inc.
