Rescuers Respond to Drowning on Lake Wateree

Camden fire fighters have found a body in Lake Wateree.Camden Fire Chief John Bowers tells us the rescue team responded to the Shaw Air Force base recreation area about a possible drowning around 1:30.

KERSHAW COUNTY, SC - (WLTX) -- A teen's body has been recovered after a drowning Thursday afternoon.

According to Camden Fire Chief John Bowers, rescuers from the Camden-Kershaw County Rescue Squad responded to the Shaw Air Force Base recreation area at Lake Wateree at around 1:30 p.m. Divers were able to locate the body just before 3:00 p.m. 

Officials from the Department of Natural Resources say the 15-year-old male was inside a kayak near the highway 97 side of the water. They say he fell out the the double kayak and drowned.

This incident remains under investigation.
