SC National Guard Leaves for Puerto Rico to Help Recovery

Members of the South Carolina National Guard left for Puerto Rico Sunday night.

Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- More than 150 soldiers in the South Carolina National Guard are traveling to Puerto Rico to aid in the recovery effort following Hurricane Maria.

SC National Guard tweeted several videos and pictures of soldiers preparing and getting on an aircraft for a mission to Puerto Rico.

They also showed a picture of National Guard engineers at McEntire Joint National Guard Base in Hopkins, getting instructions before heading to Puerto Rico.

Soldiers from the 178th Engineer Battalion in Rock Hill and the 122nd Engineer Battalion in Edgefield are going to Puerto Rico.  The National Guard said they will be assisting in debris removal and clearing roads in Puerto Rico.










The National Guard said they will be there for 30 to 60 days, but will stay longer if necessary.
