SCANA Waits To Decide Whether to Continue Nuclear Projects

SCANA says it needs more time to decide on whether or not to continue constructio on the multi billion dollar nuclear units in Jenkinsville

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - SCANA says it needs more time to decide whether or not to continue construction on the multi-billion dollar nuclear units at V.C. Summer.

In the wake of main design partner, Westinghouse's bankruptcy SCANA and Santee Cooper extended the company's evaluation period until August 10.

Two reactors are being built at the V.C. Summer plant in Jenkinsville, SC. The projects have been under scrutiny by opponents of the project as well as some rate-payers. There have been at least $1.4 billion in rate increases since 2009. The first reactor was supposed to be up and running for over a year now, but the final completion date has been pushed back to 2020.

Project co-owners will continue to make payments until a decision on whether to continue on with the projects has been made.
