Senate to Address Snow Make-Up Days Bill

Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- Lawmakers returned to the state house Tuesday and plan to look at a bill to address how schools can address all of those days missed due to the snow.

About two weeks ago the House sent a bill to the Senate that would allow districts to make their own decisions about whether or not to make up the missed days.

Under the current bill, districts could choose to forgive as many as five days.

"I would hope the schools would require their students to come back in and make up those days, but if they've got situations where they can't, it's become financially difficult for them to do it, they should have the option themselves to forgive the days. That's all the bill does. We're not mandating they forgive days, it allows the school boards to make that decision," said Senate President John Courson.

Senators will take up the bill in a subcommittee meeting Wednesday.
