Sheriff: Phone Scam in Saluda County

Saluda County Sheriff John Perry is wanting the public of a potential scam targeting Saluda County Citizens.

In the past week the Saluda County Sheriff's Office has had three similar telephone scam calls.

These calls, when made, are showing the incoming caller ID as a professional organization or legitimate business. The Saluda County Magistrate Office phone number and South Carolina Electric & Gas phone number are two of the reported numbers used during these scams.

The Saluda County Sheriff's Office is warning citizens of Saluda County of these type telephone scams and to never divulge personal information or financial information over the phone from anyone who claims to be affiliated with a government or business entity.

The Saluda County Sheriff's Office urges anyone receiving a call like this to never give information over the telephone.

Further, if the caller is an entity you normally do business with and they start asking for this type of information, hang up and call that business directly to verify the original call.

We urge anyone that receives these type telephone scams to notify their respective law enforcement agency.
