Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- The weekend was dry and cool, but some changes are on the way for the workweek.
Sunday was sunny and cool. High temperatures were in the upper 50s and lower 60s across the area.
More clouds will move into the area today and we have a slight chance for light showers as our next weather system approaches. High temperatures today will be in the middle 60s.
There will be a chance of rain Tuesday as a weak front approaches the area. High temperatures will climb ahead of the front. Tuesday we may have temperatures in the middle to upper 70s.
A slightly better chance of rain will come Wednesday as a stronger front moves towards us. Scattered showers are expected along with temperatures in the upper 70s.
Tuesday and Wednesday will be windy as warm, moist air streams in from the south.
A lingering shower is possible early Thursday, but drier weather will prevail during the day. Friday will be mostly sunny and cool with highs in the lower 60s.
Rainfall amounts Tuesday through early Thursday could be in the 0.5" to 1" range for the Midlands. Higher rainfall totals are expected in the Upstate.
This rain will not end the drought, but it will help, especially in the Upstate of South Carolina and in the mountains of North Carolina.
