Columbia, SC (WLTX) – With everyone taking the day off and celebrating the Fourth of July, if you plan on setting off fireworks yourself, it is important to be safe.
One of the most important things to do is "read the directions" and follow them.
- If a firework looks damaged; don't use it.
- Children should never handle fireworks.
- Use them away from buildings, cars and trees.
- Have a bucket of sand or water nearby in case the floating embers spark a fire.
Your best bet with the fireworks is leave it to the experts. Here are some of the events going on in the Midlands:
There are fireworks at the Peach Festival in Gilbert; the start at 10AM.
Over at Fort Jackson the Torchlight Tattoo will take place at Hilton Field starting around 6PM. The fireworks are expected to begin around dark.
Over at the Riverfront park in Columbia the fire on the water begins at 9 PM. The Cost is $15 per person
On Saturday night in Blythewood, the town is hosting the ROCKIN' RED, WHITE & BLUE! at Doko Meadows. The music & food starts at 6 PM; fireworks launch at 9.
