Williamsburg County (WLTX) - Four state law enforcement agencies are on the lookout for two men they say tried to run over a Clarendon County deputy.
Clarendon County Sheriff Randy Garrett says a manhunt is on in a 1,000 acre wooded area on U.S. 52 near Williamsburg and Florence County and another is on in Georgetown County.
Garrett says it all started today when two men suspected of burglarizing homes in Clarendon County were approached by deputies.
They spotted the men speeding away, says Garrett, and when the suspects didn't stop deputies chased them through Sumter, Florence, and Williamsburg Counties.
Garrett says the suspects eventually stopped and one jumped out and ran into the woods. He says his deputies chased him but he jumped into a truck that had keys still in the ignition.
When deputies told the suspect to stop, that's when Garrett says the suspect tried to run over deputies. In turn, Garrett says a deputy shot into the truck.
Deputies say the suspect then got away and the truck was recovered in Georgetown County. That's where one of the manhunts is on. Clarendon Deputies are working with SLED to apprehend the suspect.
Meantime, the other victim apparently made his way to the Williamsburg/Florence County line. That's where deputies from those counties and Clarendon deputies are searching a 1,000 acre area along U.S. 52 for the suspect.
