Mom Arrested After Baby Died in Hot Car

New information from the Sumter police department in connection with the death of a one year old boy...who was left inside a hot car.

SUMTER, SC - Sumter, SC (WLTX) -- We now know the cause of death for the one-year-old baby that was found in the Sumter Iris Gardens Wednesday.

The Sumter County Coroner says 1 year old Mekhi Rembert died after being in a hot car. The Sumter Police Department say paramedics were called to the gardens shortly after 3:00 p.m. and found the child unresponsive. After trying to resuscitate the child, doctors pronounced him dead at a local hospital.

The child's mother, Latisha Rembert, has been charged with homicide by child abuse and is in the Sumter County Detention Center.
